Esperance is a lovely beachside town
which boasts the usual small town shops and of course Target for Jem.
The beauty of this town is really its surrounds. It is surrounded by
a beautiful coastline of stunning beaches with white fine sand, great
surf, even better fishing and turquoise blue waters.
There have been many classic comments
from our children throughout our nearly three months away, but this
one really tops them to date. After sitting outside drinking some
wine and watching the kids playing in the playground, Rubes came up
to us and said, “Mum, you and Dad are really drinking a lot
lately”. After which I said “Rubes, this is our way of relaxing
at the end of the day”, to which she said “ Well then how are we
supposed to relax?”
Just brilliant! We still laugh about it
every day when we see them swimming in the water, surfing, playing on
their ipods, dancing in the caravan, watching a movie in the
car......and the list goes on. Hard life this travelling thing!
We bunkered in for 10 days in Esperance
for what was going to be a long spell without Josh. After a couple of
days, Josh left for Dubbo and then onto Sydney. Luckily for me it was
school holidays and as happy as the kids were to not be doing any
work, I was even more!
We spent a few days riding into town
and looking at what the town had to offer, galleries, jewellery shops
and numerous visits to the fresh juice bar. The kids made quite a few
friends at the playground which was situated directly in front of our
caravan so they had a great time. The kids started a very difficult
puzzle which is yet to be finished, Oscar made a Ecosystem in a milk
container for school and Jem continued to make spectacular lego
creations.
Esperance has a few local tourist
highlights, one of which was the Pink Lake. A salt lake that after
certain weather conditions turns a shade of pink. I drove the kids to
see it, and although there was water in it, we just couldn't see the
pink colour that everyone talked about. After looking and looking and a lot of laughing we drove on.
Thankfully, the school holiday movies
started at the local cinema and while the car went in for a
service and the rain was coming down, we were able to catch a few movies to finish off our time
without Josh.
We were really looking forward to Josh
coming home so that we could leave the big caravan park and head for
Cape Le Grand. Supposedly, one of the most beautiful beaches in Western
Australia. We were booked into a caravan park in Orleans Bay, east of
the National Park and excited about the thought of embracing a bit of
nature again.
After a drive to the airport to get
daddy, a quick stop in town to get a softboard and some groceries we
were ready to head off.
